A Message From The New CVMC President! I look forward to serving as the new CVMC president. I know we can have some fun, show off our cars and maybe even learn a few things in the
months to come. I encourage each and every one of you to get involved with the club. All of you have something to offer. It is my goal to tap into that wealth of knowledge we have here in the club. As a new slate of officers and directors take the helm I know the members will offer each one of us your support.
Thank you for this opportunity,
By Gordon M. Martin
A Message From Your Past President! I would like to thank George Bobrovsky, Karen Lane, Brenda Jones and everyone who served on the Board of Director’s for the last four years. Without your help CVMC would not be where it is today.
CVMC
January 2002 to January 2006
George Bobrovsky and I took over in January 2002. CVMC had 86 memberships as of December 31, 2001, and also had less then $1000.00 in the bank. As of December 31, 2005, CVMC had about 182 memberships and over $4000.00 in the bank.
In the last 4 years CVMC has acquired a very nice website that has attracted many new members to the club. It has also been visited by many people from all over the world.
CVMC’s Annual Mustang & Ford Show has increased in size from about 135 Show cars to approximately 230 Show Cars and CVMC Display Cars. We have also had the involvement of Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in 2 of our past shows and we hope they will join us again in the future. We also get Mustangs & Fords from all over Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and D.C.
Because of our growth CVMC had to change our monthly meeting place from Richmond Ford to the Science Museum of Virginia.
CVMC also increased it’s exposure in the first 2 years by attending weekly Cruise Ins as a club. We changed that the last 2 years by having Club Cruise Ins at various places around the area. This activity also attracted new members to CVMC.
CVMC also acquired many things for club use over the last 4 years such as a trailer, tent’s, table’s, chairs, etc. so the club can have the use of these items at any event that CVMC sponsors or attends as a club.
CVMC started an Annual Road Trip in 2003 when we went to Dearborn, Michigan for the 100th Anniversary of Ford Motor Company. In 2004 we went to MCA’s 40th Anniversary of the Mustang in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2005 we went to Mustang Week in Myrtle Beach , South Carolina. In 2006 we will be attending the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, Michigan.
CVMC has come a long ways in the last 4 years. I feel that the new leadership with your help will take it to levels that CVMC has never seen before.
The last 4 years for me has been a lot of fun and a great learning experience. I have learned a lot about myself, the Mustang hobby and CVMC. I look forward to many years with CVMC and all of the fun we have before us. Thanks for trusting me with being the president of CVMC for 4 years and I hope I did as good as job as you expected.

2005 Mechanicsville Christmas Parade! CVMC had 16 Mustangs at the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade this year. The weather was fantastic and the crowd was large and into the parade.
There was a horse unit ahead of us. We thought we were going to have to dodge those pesky land mines, BUT NO, they had their own pooper scooper!!!

It was a great day and everyone had fun and the kids looked like they were having a blast!
Thanks to all of the CVMC members who brought their Mustangs out to represent CVMC!

TCMC Toy Run To The Children’s Hospital! For the 4th year in a row the Tri-Cities Mustang Club had their annual Toy Run for the Children’s Hospital.
We met at Willow Lawn Shopping Center between 10:00am and 10:30am. There were 10 Mustangs and a Ford F-150 in attendance.

At 10:30am we left for the Children’s Hospital. I think we arrived about 11:00am. The weather was really cold so the kids did not come out to check out the Mustang’s.
TCMC has already set a date for next years “Toy Run” it will be December 2, 2006. Mark your calendars so we can have a huge turnout to help the kids!
Thanks to everyone who came out to support the kids!

2005 Chester Christmas Parade! CVMC attended the Chester Christmas Parade again this year. Last year we had a little problem with the staging area being too small. We didn’t have that problem this year. We had enough room for 25 Mustangs. Only one problem, we only had 8 Mustangs show up.
The weather was a little chilly but the sun was out and there was a very good crowd on hand and they were very much into the parade.

Everyone who attended the parade had a great time. Hopefully next year CVMC members will support this parade more especially those from the Southside!

A Mustang Christmas Surprise! In 1995, I purchased a '70 convertible with restoration thoughts dancing in my head. A few years ago, I realized the cost associated with restoration is greater than I could bear for the second time around. I began to mention the desire to sell the Mustang in casual conversation.
Approximately 2 years ago, Terry Haun, a co-worker expressed great interest in restoring the '70. He usually responded with "my wife won't let me" or
"I wish I had the money". He stopped asking me about the Mustang since he really thought I sold it earlier this year. In early December, my co-worker's wife secretly called me at work and wanted to purchase the '70 Mustang as a Christmas gift for my co-worker. With really no questions asked, we arranged for a surprise delivery to their home on Dec 23rd.
Well, after sitting for ten years, the '70 needed a little TLC. The brakes locked up, the front tires no longer held air, the driver's door glass popped out of the door tract, and it really needed a wash. We spent about a 1/2 hour attempting to start the car but decided against it. My husband was a huge help in moving the car and loading it on the trailer for the road trip to my co-workers house.
So it's Dec 23rd, time for the big surprise! With my husband driving, I called Terry's wife to let her know we were enroute. As we arrive, my co-worker and his wife are tending to Christmas decorations in the yard (this was the setup to get him outside). He sees the truck with the Mustang on the trailer and thinks "someone is getting a Mustang". He thinks again, "and it's orange"!
At this time, his wife is yelling "Merry Christmas Honey and Happy Birthday, that's Kathy in the truck"! He starts to shake his head in disbelief and grins ear to ear. His wife is jumping around in the yard like a playful kid yelling, "I got him, I got him"! I jump out of the truck and they both give me a hug, from the wife for keeping it all a secret and from him to show his thanks for such a great surprise.
I then gave him some brief information about the car and provided him with the few goodies I purchased to get him started, a complete set of shop manuals, vintage '70 license plates, a new convertible top still in the original box, oh and of course the title!
I offered my support in his restoration efforts, a few extras hands can come in handy! I really had great fun sneaking around and not letting my co-worker know what we were up to! He's already told me he plans to stay with the grabber orange and black and white interior.
I'm really glad the '70 found a good home! Hopefully soon, Terry will see the importance of becoming a CVMC member to benefit from all the great experience the club members bring to a restoration project.

CVMC Dyno Day @ Performance Autosports – January 21st, 2006! CVMC will be having yet another Fun Filled (And yes it is really fun, there’s nothing like going 140 standing still) Dyno Day at Performance Autosports on January 21st. For those that want to grab some breakfast before hand we will be meeting at the Red Robin in Short Pump at 8:30am and then going to Satterwhites. For those that want to just go to PAS be there at 10am.
So bring those Ponies’s on out and see how many horses’s you have. We would like to see all generations of Mustang’s there from the 1st Generation to the 5th Generation and anything from a 4 cylinder to a Big block would be cool. You can even bring out your trucks if you want (although I am not sure a Dualie would fit on the dyno, but it might be fun to try ) This is always a lot of fun. PAS will charge the club rate of 3 pulls for $65.00.
Hope to see you there it will be a blast!

I have secured rooms for another trip to Michigan, this time for the Woodward Dream Cruise. If you have never heard of this event, I would have to say “Where have you been all….actually I had not heard of this event either until I went up to the 100th Anniversary of Ford. Tony proceeded to take us to Woodward Ave (we finally found it…who says guys don’t stop for directions) and tell us about the cruise. This event has gotten bigger every year since its inception. For a better understanding of what it is all about check out there website at http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com
I have reserved rooms at a Red Roof Inn in Dearborn and have 6 more left. As of now I have them reserved from August 9th thru the 20th as some going wish to visit the museums, historical sites and such. CVMC Meeting Minutes – December 7, 2005! The December Minutes will be in next month’s Newsletter.
By Brenda Jones
CVMC Officer’s Meeting Minutes – December 12, 2005! Place: River City Diner; 5:30pm.
Present: Tony Hall, Gordon Martin, Laurie Ford, Ron Martin, George Bobrovsky, George Cozier, Richard Jones, Karen Lane, Don Lane
Tony and Gordon opened the meeting at 5:35 pm.
Gordon does not see any major changes taking place and feels that the transition with the newly elected officers will be a smooth one. Gordon mentioned that he hopes to retain the majority of the volunteers within the club. He also would like to concentrate on the monthly meetings. Gordon mentioned that he would like to form a committee that would secure speakers at our monthly meetings as this is an invaluable information tool.
Tony gave out documentation to the new directors and also mentioned that he would still be doing the monthly newsletter and offered his help with the newly elected president. Tony made the suggestion that the mailbox needs to checked on a weekly basis and that George Bobrovsky would handle this. Tony also mentioned that the elected officers become active members in the Mustang Club of America.
Tony mentioned that there were 8 members that participated in the Chesterfield Christmas Parade on December 11, 2005.
Everyone in attendance discussed the Fall Car Show. Sponsorship was a topic and that securing the sponsorship should start as soon as possible. Will submit the flyer for the Fall show for approval at the January directors meeting. A possible price increase was also discussed. Requiring the entrants remain in the show until the awards have been presented and in order to obtain your award you must be present was also discussed. There is also the possibly of increasing the number of participants.
Discussion of the spring show was open to ideas. Pricing the event ranged from $10.00 to $15.00, no pre-registration required, show would be open to any make and model.
Directors also discussed the possibility of purchasing a PA system for future use.
Tony mentioned that the trailer needs to be cleaned. He also mentioned that the Car Club Council Dues need to be taken care of for the upcoming year.
Karen Lane turned over the treasurer’s information to incoming treasurer Ron Martin. Karen also mentioned that a 3 month Audit be performed. She indicated that 2 new officers and one outgoing officer will need to make the changes at the clubs bank.
Tony made the suggestion of having a condensed version of the newsletter mailed to members and that the full version would be easily obtained via the web site or email. This would cut costs. Tony will look into getting a PDF writer to produce newsletter.
Tony also mentioned that the web site is very easy to navigate but needs to be updated. Articles that would like to be included in the newsletter need to be submitted to Tony by the 25th of the month.
Tony mentioned the directors;
New Billy McDaniel Peter Marshall Llew Stakes George Cozier Kathy McWilliams |
Current Carroll Lipscombe David Lythgoe Rusty Wiseman Jimmy Clements Richard Jones Steve Coleman |

Ford's 2006 NAIAS (Detroit) Auto Show Display Will Be A Shopping Experience
Every year, more than 4 million people across the country decide to do their new car or truck shopping at a local auto show. Now, new marketing techniques and new technology is allowing prospective buyers to experience the autos in a much more personal way.
This year in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show, which draws about a million people alone, Ford Motor Company launches a new exhibit that takes the show stand from a static to a sensory-led experience.
The auto show space brings Ford innovation to life for all its brands – Ford, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Mazda, Mercury, Land Rover, Lincoln and Volvo – with significantly higher levels of interaction and showmanship.
For example – the Ford brand space welcomes you as a typical American city's town square might using bold, bright colors and an open, expansive environment. That open feeling is enhanced with a unique dome ceiling that changes colors and tones throughout the course of a day. Information and video for individual vehicles is presented to customers on interactive spec pods rather than the traditional static stands.
The Lincoln space is the ultimate effort in immersing visitors into individual vehicles. Next to each Lincoln is a multi-media hub that literally creates a personal space. When a show-goer enters the hub, he or she takes a seat on luxurious Lincoln leather and then triggers a film meant to simulate the experience a person has while driving. One half of the screen shows the view from out the driver's window, while the other shows the lifestyle the car or truck would be part of. To top it off, there's an olfactory element as well. For example, as the Lincoln Zephyr sedan drives through the streets of Seattle, not surprisingly, it passes a coffee shop. When that happens, the scent of coffee fills the air. When the all-new 2007 Aviator crossover pulls out of a Hollywood, California driveway, it passes beautiful magnolias and the aroma of sweet flowers perfumes the air. Lincoln's display is an elegant contrast of dark and light materials accented with orange tones that are warm while conveying energy and strength.
Then at Mercury, the stand reflects the personality of the customers the brand is drawing with new products like the Milan sedan and Mariner SUV. Mercury customers like to discover information on their own and with new "I Screens" located in the Mercury area they're free to do so. A show visitor can grab onto the I screens and move them in a full 360 degree circle. As the person moves with the screen, the information and view changes and tells a lifestyle story. For example, as we walk around the Milan the screen will show the versatility of the interior by showing the vehicle from the perspective of a surfer and how his board will easily fit into the car. At times, the information is also projected onto large LED screens in the display. Mercury colors are sophisticated, but expressive and modern with cool blue and green tones.
The Detroit show opens to the public on January 14, 2006 and runs through January 23, 2006.

News From The Car club Council of central Virginia
I hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas or at least got what they needed. Car hobbyists are going to have to wait until the General Assembly goes into session this month to see if it looks like we will escape another session without anything changing our rights as hobbyists.
First we have the exhaust bill that would allow aftermarket exhaust systems on vehicles. This is just common sense. Right now you are only supposed to have the factory or a system exactly like the factory system on your car or truck. We know that just about every old car has had the factory system or parts of it replaced due to wear. And of course cars that have been modified or changed over the years do not have a factory type exhaust system. We do want to be good citizens and be sure our system is not too loud. This bill would allow aftermarket systems as long as they are not too loud. This was the problem and why the bill was killed last year. No one wants to buy the equipment to test exhaust to make sure it’s not too loud. Under current law a police officer can write a ticket even if you have a 100% original factory system if that officer thinks it is too loud. Then you have to prove in court that you have a 100% original factory system. As I said this bill is just common sense. Let’s hope there is some way it can pass without buying all that expensive testing equipment.
You’ve heard about the bill that would allow kit and replica cars to be registered in a way similar to antiques. In other words a replica of a 1965 car could be registered as if it were a real 1965 antique. I can see both the good and bad of this bill as can most of the hobbyists I have talked to. It will be interesting to see how far this measure gets in the assembly. SEMA has gotten measures like this one introduced into other state legislative bodies.
A group called the National Motorists Association has hired a lobbying firm and gotten at least three members of the General Assembly together to try and end the banning of radar detectors in Virginia. I’ve always felt that a court case would find this illegal since the airwaves (for example for CB radios and short wave radios) are free for all Americans to use. Radar detectors send and receive radio signals and therefore should be legal. NMA has a website www.stoptheban.org and is asking for money to help pay for the lobbying firm. The organization claims to have been instrumental in ending the 55 mph speed limit.
The state DEQ is going to ask the EPA to remove the Richmond area from the list of regions that are not meeting current ozone standards. The DEQ says we are now meeting the federal ozone standard and therefore we do not need to be on the list. Ozone has decreased in the Richmond area due to summer weather that was cooler and wetter than normal. Also some of the power plants have installed controls to reduce ozone. The best part of this is that no where are old cars mentioned. In fact old cars were never an issue but just a way to try and avoid actually doing something that would reduce ozone levels. If we are removed from the smog list (and knowing what I know about the EPA I doubt it) then we will not have to worry about automotive emissions tests – something that has been a goal of the council for years.
All the bills that could affect the car hobby in some way will be posted on the Virginia Association of Car Councils website: www.vaacc.org. You can view any of the bills and if you need to get a copy of the antique vehicle registration law, law stating antiques do not have to have city/county stickers, or the law that forbids taxing antiques as personal property you can find links to them on the VAACC links page.
We will have a special legislative session where we will review and discuss all the car hobby bills in the assembly on January 30th.
Check www.carclubcouncil.com under newsletter for more info.

I am really proud of all the judges this year. Being friendly and courteous really paid off. I heard absolutely no complaints about any judges it was great.
There were a few people who were curious of the judging results but this would be considered normal for a show of our size.
Well done Judge’s!!!
